When reading Systems by Charles Yu, the entire reading is an allusion to everything that happened in the year twenty-twenty. The story itself acts as a timeline. It starts off with many references about the year. It starts off talking about news of Harry and Meghan, then the story moves onto Coronavirus, then to the protests. In Systems, nowhere is there mentioned that this is the year twenty-twenty. Only those who would have experienced or read about it in the future would know what this is talking about.

The whole story also gives an allusion to the people experiencing this. There are so many relatable things happening in the story, from the way people are reacting to the pandemic to what people are searching for on the internet. On multiple occasions people found themselves during this time searching things such as, “How long before symptoms of coronavirus” and “Is there a vaccine” (Yu 178). There are so many things that the author is able to allude to without stating it. The whole story it seems is not only relating to the year twenty-twenty but people in twenty-twenty. By calling the story Systems, it is not only referring to the way the world and the government and WHO has reacted during this time. It is also referring to how the people reacted to these circumstances and events. Showing that people are one of the systems.
